Artist Statement

Starting out studying Graphic Design in school, I knew I loved geometry, precision, and art. What I didn’t know was that I needed to build things with my hands. I challenge myself by designing pieces that I don’t know how to build at first, because I love the “a-ha!” of figuring things out. Much of my sketchbook is filled with mathematical formulas and problems, jumbled together with drawings. I strive to make my work playful, tactile, and engaging, but more than anything, I want my work to be touched, tried, worn, and used.

I love pattern. I especially love pattern in natural objects. Nature can often be thought of as random and chaotic, but if a closer look is taken, it is very ordered. Pattern is an endless inspiration that can develop and grow in so many different directions. I get so much inspiration from my garden, where I can spend hours looking, touching, and watching what I love most, life, growth, and the continuum of nature.

All of my work is hand formed and fabricated using all different metals, from copper to platinum, and everywhere in between. Also included in my pieces are different precious and semi-precious stones, natural materials, and any thing else I can find to fill the need.
