Company Statement

Practical Solar, Inc. is a manufacturer of small-scale concentrating solar power (CSP) systems. The flagship product, a unique and proprietary heliostat system, is installable by hand and controlled by software running as a background program on any PC. The heliostats use reflectors to direct sunlight to whatever points are desired by the user. The heliostats are individually targeted and registered with the software, thus they can be directed to a common target for concentrating solar power aplications, or to multiple targets - the possibilities are unlimited. Retargeting can be accomplished in minutes. Common applications include natural lighting, space heating, and hot water heating. Thermal energy generated by the system can potentially be used also for generation of electricity, desalination, H2 production, and a wide variety of low temperature industrial applications.
