Artist Statement

These paintings involve two shapes and symbols: the Mobius strip and the squid. They are built in oil, layer upon layer. until they become thick and almost sculptural. The symbols; one a primitive species from beneath the sea and the other a representation of eternity and repetition of action, float in a questionable harmony. Primitive life, mathematical phenomena and the action of painting all combine as a new formula, an exploration of connections and an invocation to the process and conversation of creativity.
